• Family above all else.ExperienceBuilding upon the 8 years of experience with tech teams in the Philippines, I co-founded a Denver and Cebu based tech startup with a Denver based partner. We built out an office space in Cebu Business Park and hired a tech crew of 14 experienced developers and designers to focus on building tech ideas into minimum viable products. We created a great culture in our office and we have a fantastic team of people dedicated to building quality products. Part of that success is adopting an AGILE Management process which leads to successful releases.Driven by my positive personal healthcare experiences abroad and my frustrations in searching for information on the internet I realized the Medical Tourism industry needed a central source to assist patients in finding quality information. I co-founded this project and put together a team of experienced and trusted friends to build it. We focused on scalability and speed for this quickly growing industry. From concept to launch and now the third iteration I've been involved at all levels of this product.I helped create and guide the business and User Experience objectives of WaitKnowMore. The project started as a &pet side project& and has blossomed into an amazing tool that solves a real need in the community. We are currently beta testing the system in the Philippines. was a slow organic success that survived the early tech bubble (barely) and grew into a good sized company with over 90 employees. During the first 4-5 &Startup Years&, I did all of the design work, database structure, programming and some of the system administration. In addition I took care of most of the banking, legal and accounting functions. As the company earned more revenue, we decided to open an Asian support office in the Philippines. I made the difficult transition from a daily do'er to a manager and moved to S.E. Asia. There I learned how to build teams, create office culture and grow a successful business.
I successfully exited the company in January 2012, selling all of my shares.I managed the 501c application process to create the US based foundation which primarily funded the operations of &Volunteer for the Visayans& in the Philippines. I also managed the tax returns and banking for many years.Volunteer for the VisayansLooking to find a meaningful way to give back to the same community where we operated the GoAbroad Office, we built a Community Center in a near-by housing project called “Bliss”. I personally contributed the funds to purchase the property, build the community center and cover the operations costs including 5 staff for the first two years. By the 3rd year the center became self sustainable through a “pay-to-volunteer” revenue and business model. I was actively involved in the building of the Center in the Philippines, the daily decision making and part of the Philippine government process to create a non-government non-profit enterprise. I remained on the advisory board for another 3 years with a talented local management team in place.My first company was a web site design and video production company that I started with my best friends. It was the early days of the web. We had to spend more time convincing businesses that the internet was of value than we did building primitive web sites for money. We maintained a dozen web sites, some of which still live on today... We never landed a commercial video project. We built the web site for the Study Abroad Office at the University of Colorado at Denver which lead me to . 3- 6 months to attend NAFSA (Association of International Education) annual and regional conferences, study abroad fairs in an effort to promote the reputation of the company I worked for which served as online comprehensive resource for students planning a study abroad program or any international opportunities abroad such as intern and volunteer.
