Camera Raw 5.3 update
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe& Creative Suite& 4, Adobe Photoshop& CS4, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 software.
Important notice:
Read the following installation instructions carefully. Incorrect installation will prevent Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw 5.3 from reading raw images correctly.

The Camera Raw 5.3 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6.
The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 3.0 customers is Camera Raw 3.6.
The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 4.0 (Windows&) is Camera Raw 3.7.
The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 5.0 (Windows) is Camera Raw 4.5.
For Photoshop CS4 and Creative Suite 4 customers, we recommend that you install Camera Raw 5.3 by selecting Updates from the Help menu and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the latest available Camera Raw update. You can also download the
for Photoshop CS4 and Creative Suite 4.

Installation Instructions
To open a DMG file:
Double-click the file. This will open Disk Copy, which mounts the image on your desktop.
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Photoshop CS4:
Automated installation on Mac or Windows:
1. Select Updates... from the Help menu.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the latest available Camera Raw update.
Manual installation on Mac OS:
1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
2. Open the download file, double-click CameraProfiles.dmg, and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Open the Finder.
4. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
5. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
6. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 5.
8. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge.
NOTE: If generic camera thumbnails appear in Adobe Bridge, follow these steps:
1. Check to make sure the plug-in was installed in the correct directory in Step 5 above.
2. Start Adobe Bridge.
3. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.
Important: Purging the Central Cache deletes cached thumbnail information for all folders. It also deletes labels, ratings, and rotation settings for read-only files (for example, files on a CD or locked files) or file formats that don't have XMP support.
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6:
You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.
1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge.
2. Open the download file, double-click CameraProfiles.dmg, and follow the onscreen instructions.
3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS3/File Formats
5. Move the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.

Additional notes
In this release of Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom&, there is an important exception in our DNG file handling for the Panasonic DMC LX3, Panasonic DMC FX150, Panasonic DMC FZ28, Panasonic DMC-G1, and Leica D-LUX 4. In this release the native, proprietary files from these cameras can be converted only to linear DNG files. A linear DNG file has gone through a demosaic process that converts a single mosaic layer of red, green, and blue channel information into three distinct layers, one for each channel. The resulting linear DNG file is approximately three times the size of a mosaic DNG file or the original proprietary file format.
This exception is a temporary solution to ensure that Panasonic and Leica's intended image rendering from their proprietary raw file format is applied to an image when converted DNG files are viewed in third-party software titles. The same image rendering process is applied automatically in Camera Raw 5.3 and Lightroom 2.3 when viewing the original proprietary raw file format.
In a future release, Adobe plans to update the DNG specification to include an option to embed metadata-based representations of the lens compensations in the DNG file, allowing a mosaic DNG conversion. In the interim, Adobe recommends converting these files to DNG only to allow compatibility with third-party raw converters, previous versions of the Camera Raw plug-in, or previous versions of Lightroom.
